Virtual Crafting This Winter - Smoothie Hats

This winter looks like we're going to be stuck indoors more than normal. So why not join us in our winter-long virtual craft club, where we'll be knitting little hats for Innocent smoothie bottles, for their Big Knit campaign in 2021. We've done this in the past, below are some examples of what we've done.

You can find more information here, including patterns etc. Whether you're a member of LWEWI or just a keen knitter, do get your needles and wool out and get knitting! In spring we'll put a call out to bring all the hats together and send them to a London branch of Age UK for use in next year's campaign. And hopefully we'll see the hats in supermarkets one day in early 2022!

Virtual Crafting!

Since lockdown began in March, we've been finding ways to meet online to continue both our main WI meetings and our craft club. Even now, with restrictions lifting, we're aware that the space we use is going to be too small to allow for social distancing while that is still a requirement, so virtual is the way to go!

We still meet on the 1st Tuesday of the month, from 7 to 8pm on Zoom with whatever we happen to be crafting - we don't do group projects as everyone has different materials, so it's turned into a bit more of a stitch and bitch session!

Some examples of what we've been working on can be found here:

We also post some images of our crafting on the main LWEWI twitter account: @londonwestendwi

If you'd like to come along to our next virtual craft club, on 4th August, do email us - we send out the details via our LWEWI WhatsApp group, and can email them to anyone not in the group including new and potential members.

April Craft Club - CANCELLED

In the currenct circumstances, we have made the difficult decision to cancel Craft Club on 7 April to keep our members safe from Coronavirus. Note the March WI monthly meeting is also cancelled.

We hope to resume regular craft club meetings as soon as possible - we'll post here, Facebook and Twitter to keep you updated. In the meantime please stay safe, keep washing your hands, and lets all look out for those in our communities who may need extra help at this time.

March Craft Club - What We Made

In March, we made these gorgeous paper flowers with help from Jane - so simple, but very effective!

March Craft Club

Our next Craft Club will be Tuesday 3rd March at Atlantis Books from 5.30 to 7.30pm.

Jane is bringing along some kits to help us make paper flowers - you're also welcome to bring along your own papers and templates to make. Oh, and if you want to buy the same kit as Jane, they're £2 at The Works.

There will be lots of materials and cutting mats available, but do bring any scissors, glue or double sided tape, and anything you'd like to mount the flowers on - sticks? hairbands? The possibilities are endless - you could even put them together in a bouquet like this:

Please email lwewicraftclub@gmail.com if you plan to come, so we know to expect you. Also email us for more information if you haven't come before and want to know more!

As ever tea, coffee and delicious biscuits will be served.

February Craft Club - What We Made

In February, we had an introduction to crochet with Jayne showing us the basics of these granny squares, and some straight lines too (well, straight-ish!).

As ever, thanks to Atlantis Books for hosting.

Next month's club, on Tuesday 3rd March, will be making paper flowers using craft kits Jane will bring.

February Craft Club

Our next Craft Club of the new year will be Tuesday 4th February at Atlantis Books from 5.30 to 7.30pm.

Ever wanted to try crochet, but not sure how to get started? Well, now's your chance! We're having a beginner's crochet session at Craft Club in February, all beginners and improvers welcome. Know what you're doing? Come along and help those of us just starting out to get going. We'll be doing simple things like granny squares, working up (perhaps!) to some twiddle mitts for St John's Hospice (or at least getting them started!)

There will be lots of wool and crochet hooks and printed instructions available (and maybe some videos too), but do bring any wool or crochet hooks you have lying around.
Please email lwewicraftclub@gmail.com if you plan to come, so we know to expect you. Also email us for more information if you haven't come before and want to know more!

As ever tea, coffee and delicious biscuits will be served.
